We were honored to be a part of the Rosetta Mission when our client E2V developed the CCD imaging devices on board Rosetta using Compugraphics’ photomasks. Rosetta made history by launching the robot probe “Philae” on to the surface of the comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko some 310 million miles from earth. The mission, which took over a decade to complete, was declared a success in August 2014.
Los Gatos & Palo Alto consolidated site and moved to a top of the range facility in Fremont, California. The expansion was driven by the acquisition of Suss Microtech’s mask shop (Image Technology) in Palo Alto, which specialized in large area photomasks. The Los Gatos and Palo Alto operations were merged meaning Compugraphics is now positioned to serve the diverging Semiconductor IC, MEMS, Advanced Packaging mask needs all from one upgraded facility in the US.
We acquire ML&C, Jena, Germany giving Compugraphics 14” capabilities and complimenting similar technology nodes to Glenrothes. This acquisition strengthens our position in the European market and allows Compugraphics to provide a higher level of service to our customers.

In 1997 we acquired Apex Lithography Services Inc, Texas and procured Diamon images, Los Gatos, California the following year. Prior to this expansion our business was limited in the U.S.
With this move , Compugraphics is now global giving the U.S. a strong foothold in the two key markets, North America and Europe.
Compugraphics certified to BS5750 / ISO9002 / EN 29002 standards and our first laser system (core-2564) goes into production.

The late 70s/early 80s was a time for expansion in Scotland for Compugraphics. Our Glenrothes facility grew ten thousand square feet in 1979 and expanded by another ten thousand in 1986.
Compugraphics also had our first electron beam system in production (Varian VLS-40) in this time.
Due to the technology boom in 1970 Fife was buzzing with manufacturing facilities supplying to companies like General Instruments. It was an exciting time for technology and Compugraphics make our first photomask.
There were so many Semiconductor manufacturers and their suppliers in the Central Belt of Scotland, from Greenock in the West to Glenrothes in the East, that this area was nicknamed “Silicon Glen”, a play on the famous “Silicon Valley” in California (we have now a facility there too).
